Started up the Cohos Trail which runs through Campsite #11 and followed it southbound to the HOL. From here it was an easy walk up the snowmobile trail to the ridge of Sugar Hill. It took some doing to find the recognized summit because the entire ridge varies little in elevation and is a maze of herd paths. After inspecting nearly all of the 'bumps' we finally discovered which was the correct one. Then back to the HOL on the Cohos Tr. and followed it a bit further then we followed a well worn herd path to another flat ridge but a little more open than Sugar Hill. Several of the bumps could have passed for the true summit but with perseverance we finally came to find the commonly recognized one. All in all, a very easy whack of 6.5 miles from the park. |
