| Comments: |
After popping a calf muscle last weekend and not wanting to sit around eating bon bons we pick a few relatively easy-going bushwhacks in the same area. If things worked out we’d climb one mountain, drive to the next, hit that one and so.
Both mountains on the New Hampshire 300 Highest and New Hampshire 2000-footer list.
Swift Diamond Farm Peak (South South Crystal)
From our parking spot, we set off southwest over older logging sash toward a cal between the summit and a bump to the south crossing older logging roads, hitting herd paths and lots of moose activity along the way. Just before the cal we turned northwest up the ridge. For the next few hundred feet of elevation gain things started getting steep and a little thick. Just after 2600 feet the woods opened and leveled off with lots of herd paths. From here we stayed to the east in nice woods to avoid some thicker stuff high on the ridge then turning west to the recognized high point and signed in. Our return trip as always, we choose a deferent route to do a little exploring and found an older chewed up moose antler along the way back to the car. Total trip was +/- 3 ½ miles and 800 ft of elevation gain of bushwhacking
Four Mile Brook Mountain (South Tucker Mountain)
From our parking spot, we set off east, turning southeast up the older radio antenna access road now more of a ATV trail. After a few hundred feet of elevation gain we turned southwest toward the summit on an older logging cut and now herd path. Once things leveled off we jump off and hit the recognized high point and signed in. Not much of a bushwhack to this point. We then set off bushwhacking east, turning northeast towards the radio antenna exploring along the way. After checking out the radio antenna back to the car. Total trip was +/- 1 miles and 300 ft of elevation gain.
My calf was a little sore and we called it a day.
