I walked the AT to the highpoint on the north slope of Wayatt Hill, where a ridge extends north from the summit. I followed the ridge south in open woods to the highpoint. The highpoint is recognized and is the further east 1850 bump, not the 1841 with the spot elevation. I headed back the same way and took the AT to Mt. Mist. I made a point of visiting all of the highpoint contenders, as there are equal contours that I wanted to reconfirm. On the return, I took the trail to Webster Slide Mtn. I visited the highpoint near the trail and also bushwhacked northwest along the ridge, to the bump at the end; no conclusive evidence to suggest which is higher, but I would assume the traditional summit is good.
Unrelated to this hike: Congratulations to Charlie and Nancy Foote who finished the NH 500 highest on the West Peak of Plymouth Mountain earlier in the day. |
