If only there could be something to be done with with the first mile of the Osceola Trail, it is just a jumble of rocks mixed with some mud! I had just been to Middle at the end of last August. At the col between the peaks, I took the herd path to the left, there were some small rock cairns just before and after it. I think this is a rather obvious herd path that is used mostly by people as a good place to go to the bathroom, eeewww. I think it took me ten minutes to get to the recognized summit. I had some blowdowns and I knew how to go around a couple ledgy spots. I found it easier going than I thought I would find. No views this time, I was in a cloud the whole time. I returned the same way. When I got back to the trail I noticed that someone had removed the cairns. I then headed up to Mt. Osceola for the heck of it. Clouds didn't clear until I got home later that afternoon. Good fast hike but I confess I was a little stiff from the trail work I did the day before with the Trailwrights the day at Artist Bluff. |
