Date of Hike: Thursday, October 19, 2017
Parking/Access Road Notes
Parking/Access Road Notes: Ours were the only cars at the Mt. Tremont roadside lot on 302 and Sawyer Pond drive-in lot on the Kanc. We met no one all day, despite the fine weather.
Surface Conditions
Surface Conditions: Dry Trail, Wet/Slippery Rock, Mud - Minor/Avoidable, Leaves - Significant/Slippery
Recommended Equipment
Recommended Equipment:
Water Crossing Notes
Water Crossing Notes: The Swift River was very low. Not rock-hoppable that I could see, but I was wearing water shoes and the water barely topped my ankles.
Trail Maintenance Notes
Trail Maintenance Notes: Brunel Trail in rough shape, with quite a few blowdowns and overgrowth. The fallen leaves probably added to our difficulty in following it in places, but we never went far off-track. The Owl's Cliff spur sign is on a fallen tree and hard to spot, but there is also an intact Brunel Trail sign at the spur so you can't miss it

Comments
Comments: Watch out for nasty widow-makers on blowdowns on the Brunel Trail. I was happy we chose to ascend the steep, slippery last pitch up to Mt. Tremont. Great views both from Owl's Cliff and the Tremont summit.
