Recommended Equipment:
Water Crossing Notes
Water Crossing Notes: All major river crossings on the Piper Trail are bridged, and the few minor ones that aren't bridged were easy. No water crossings on the ridgeline.
Trail Maintenance Notes
Trail Maintenance Notes: Piper Trail is difficult to follow for the first couple tenths of a mile - leaves obscure the footway, and blazes are faded. But once the trail reaches the old woods road, it's very easy to follow up to the ridge. A few blowdowns on Piper. The Middle Sister Trail could use some better blazing, especially on the open rock sections where sometimes it's not clear whether the trail goes around or straight up.
Dog-Related Notes
Dog-Related Notes: Saw several - they seemed to be doing fine.
Bugs
Bugs: None.
Lost and Found
Lost and Found: Nada.

Comments
Comments: Really fun hike! Trail is gradual for the first 0.6 miles to the Weetamoo Trail junction, then gains a bit of elevation between there and the Nickerson Ledge junction, then is mostly flat until the crossing of the Chocorua River (which is bridged). It then follows the river uphill a bit before beginning the switchbacks. A few blowdowns on the switchback section, one of which I had to take my pack off and crawl under, but there were plenty of other people on the trail and they must have all done the same thing. Beautiful views from the ledges. Some of the slabs on the upper portion of the Piper Trail were wet, but we managed them without slipping. Middle Sister Trail was amazing - lots of open rock, unobstructed views, it did have a small amount of ice though, but that was easy to walk around. The summit of Middle Sister has just as nice views as the main summit but without the crowds!
