Parking/Access Road Notes
Parking/Access Road Notes: Sandwich Notch Road- well the dinsmore road was in amazing shape (probably because there seems to be some logging operation going on. Once you get past the sign that tells you how long the road has been open, it gets a little less nice. The paved small portion my be the worst part. Then right by the trailhead there is a very large washout/water bar in the road. I was able to drive around it. The 1 car spot parking at the trailhead was open for me but was very muddy. There was enough for 2 cars on the opposite side of the road but there were hunters cars there.

Trail Maintenance Notes
Trail Maintenance Notes: This trail needs some love it looks like. There are a few blowdowns from sandwich notch road to squam mountain. A handsaw and maybe a bigger saw or ax would do the trick. The blazing is very few and far between especially once you cross the doublehead trail. The trail follows running water for a while and it is not that shallow. After walking around the water for a while the trail hooks left and lucky for us we found the old blaze and sprike marks on some rocks to confirm we were still on the trail/

Comments
Comments: Well we set off thinking we would head all the way to Percival today but we got to Mt Squam. The forest was quite open and we were the only ones out there all day. We made our way up the leaf land and started to notice clumps of deer fur. Once we got to the rock with a piece of wood nailed in it so you can cross it is where there is a good steep up. On this large rock/small cliff was a lot of blood. It looked like some hunter got a deer the day before and used the trail to drag it out. We saw a lot of hair and blood one leaves after this as well. We moved as much sticks and branches off the trail as we could. From the way in to the way out I would suggest to go into the woods for doublehead northeast peak right at the cairn and uprooted tree on its side. The woods are more open there and we walked around to make sure we got every high point in the woods. We did not find a jar but we found some rocks like a cairn and a pink surveyor tape. We headed over and hit the summit of doublehead and caught a little view off trail. It was hard to follow the trail after this as this trail does not look like it is maintained... There were car washes and barely any blazing which made us think we were off trail a few times. We walked along water for a few minutes before hooking left and up to continue on the trail. The best view of the day was on some ledges before the squam mtn summit. After we hit the summit of squam mtn we turned around and headed back. It was a great day and I am almost finished with the ridge!`
