| Trail Maintenance Notes: |
Trails in excellent condition considering recent storm damage. A few blowdowns near the summit of East Osceola, and a few on the section of East Pond Trail between East Pond and the Kancamagus Highway, but most were easy step-overs or duck-unders. Trail work much appreciated! |

| Comments: |
Beautiful, cold and crisp day for a 17-mile loop including East Osceola, Osceola, Little East Pond, and East Pond. Trail conditions were much better than expected. Snow cover was present on most of these trails- ranging from a dusting to an inch- and with plenty of dry rocks/dirt at lower elevations. Minimal mud and running water to deal with, as the trails were almost all frozen. Microspikes or similar traction strongly recommended on both approaches to Mt. Osceola- due to intermittent, unavoidable stretches of ice. About 50% of the hikers we saw today had no traction devices... descent on a few sections of the Mt. Osceola Trail (especially on the Tripoli Rd. side) must have been very sketchy, and I hope they all made it down safely. |
