Wore Hillsound spikes for most of the route today; however, on the steeps was wishing for front points. Someday maybe I'll learn... Full crampons are not overkill for these peaks in icy conditions. Some adventurous soul came up from the Waterville Valley side with nubby potato-scrubber grade traction devices but continued over the top and down to Tripoli Road so we never met.
Quite wintry on the ridge with mini drifts and tracks getting blown in pretty quickly. I did not linger. Did the Chimney bypass on ascent, bypass of the bypass on descent. |
