What a great hike! Cold, not too windy, no clouds in the sky. Trails were easy to follow. A few of us wore snowshoes the whole way, others wore micro-spikes. Both worked, though the spikes would have been difficult if the trail hadn't been somewhat packed down already. On most of the trail, there was maybe 8 inches of snow, but some areas at the summits and near windy spots had over a foot. Definitely too much snow to bare-boot. The top layer of the snow was a little crusty, particularly in open areas, but not crusty enough to butt-slide down (I know, I tried). All in all, excellent conditions and a very fun hike. |
