Comments
Comments: stage road untracked. lower straightback mountain trail and jesus-beaver trails had been snowmobile travelled yesterday which made going easier to the ledges. at least a couple other snomos were headed up early this afternoon too. once on the ledges there was heavy drifting up to the range trail. more drifting interspersed with wind blown crusty sections up to the crusty summit of major. wind were surprisingly strong so i quickly retreated back down in my tracks to jesus-beaver trail. i dropped back down the trail to the hard turn at the swamp and picked up the bear pass trail. fairly heavy breaking on the untravelled route up to the straightback ledges. drifting made the straightback mountain trail hard to discern and i wandered off it a couple times up to the summit. i got on the trail proper back down to where my tracks came up from bear pass and followed bear pass trail back to jesus-beaver. it was an quick easy descent from there on the snomo travelled trail. given the incoming forecast for tonight i opted for short and sweet this morning. very cold and windy on the summits, but this round about route provided decent protection from the wind on the approaches.
