Cold temps and deep sugary snow made for a good old fashioned trail breaking snowshoe outing. Orange blazes were easy to follow in the hardwoods but in the snow ladened conifers higher up the mountain the blazes we're often covered up by snow plastered on the trees. North Lookout much colder and windy and we wacked about hunting for the nearby high point. We attempted North Randolph via Ridge Trail from North Outlook but wind slab snow, drifts and hidden blazes helped us quickly decide that this would be best to come back another day so we turned around. We spent a few minutes again at the windy North Outlook, grand Vista! Took a nice break on the South Outlook. Descending was fast and fun following our tracks. We met skiers skinning up looking for Crescent Glades and they nicely thanked us for breaking trail. Back at car we met another skier who said they need to follow orange triangle markers not orange blazes...idk. Good outing to a 3k peak |
