Going up backside of Gunstock wasn't too bad. Encountered some ice as I neared the top. However going from Gunstock to Belknap to Piper and down, there was quite a lot of ice hidden under the inch or two of powder, some of it bullet proof that even with sharpened microspikes was a challenge. Went down hard in one area that I knew was bad. I'd say unless you have a new, sharp pair of microspikes you might want to think twice about doing the ridge from Gunstock to Piper. Of course, with the warm temps predicted over the week-end, that ice should soften, which will make a big difference on how well the traction will work. |
