Comments
Comments: zealand road had rock hard snow. the trail was the same with some ice along the river then good hard snow up to the ridge. snowshoes gripped well. once on the ridge the snow got harder with more exposed rock and the last .25 to the summit had sections of flow ice and near boilerplate hard snow. snowshoes started skittering and i ditched them below the stairs at the final pitch switching to hillsound spikes. the partially melted out stairs required care especially to descend. more hard snow and ice to the ledges which were a mixed bag of snow, ice and bare ledge. great views. i used spikes all the way back out.
