Comments
Comments: we walked corser brook road which is a busy snowmobile corridor for roughly 2.5 miles then turned off right (east) on a very clear road that drops down to cross corser brook on a bridge. snowmos had ridden this road a bit. across the bridge we took a left heading north for maybe a half mile to an old log landing. our plan was to roughly recreate a route i used last winter to get to northwest black with good effect and that gets you within 200-300 vertical of the summit using skidder cuts. we headed up in the cut and didn't have too much luck initially finding the old road we were looking for, but continued up staying south of the drainage on various roads with good going. semi supportive snow with breakable crust. the occasional deep punch through. around 2300 ft we crossed the drainage and picked up a series of skid roads heading up the northwest peak. once we maxed those out we had good open woods to the summit with a bit of scrappy spruce just before reaching the recognized high point. we left the summit heading down the ridge towards the col with black encoutering some thick spruce and deep drifted snow. same part time supportive snow with crust. farther down the woods steepened and opened up down towards the saddle which we stayed just under to the northeast. from there we followed the ridge up to the false summit of black and then the true summit and recognized high point. some snow covered spruce around the highpoint. we dropped west from the summit into the west drainage on black and followed it down to a prominent logging road that brought us back down to the bridge over corser brook where we had turned north earlier on another road. it was then a fairly quick walk back out to the car. notable snowmo traffic on what is a relatively narrow corridor so we had to stay alert.
