Date of Hike
Date of Hike: Tuesday, January 30, 2018
Parking/Access Road Notes
Parking/Access Road Notes: Only car in the parking lot arriving and leaving. The lot and road were glare ice--getting out of the car without spikes on yet was the most dangerous part of the trip.
Surface Conditions
Surface Conditions: Ice - Blue, Snow/Ice - Frozen Granular
Recommended Equipment
Recommended Equipment: Light Traction, Snowshoes
Water Crossing Notes
Water Crossing Notes: Stream on Rollin's was open water but rock hoppable
Trail Maintenance Notes
Trail Maintenance Notes: We took the Blueberry Ledge Cutoff on a lark, but the blue blazes just stopped occurring about half-way in (near the wilderness boundary). So we bushwhacked the rest of the way, but with no track and no snowshoes it was a bit tedious, although a fun little adventure.
Dog-Related Notes
Dog-Related Notes:
Bugs
Bugs: No snow fleas seen yet--even though it seemed sort of "springy" out.

Comments
Comments: The Major and Old Man and the Saw were nice enough to do a "charity" hike with me today (they both having gridded out January)--we had a very pleasant day in the mountains. Conditions were about as easy as it gets in the winter, with the hard, icy snow providing excellent support and traction for our HH spikes shod boots the entire trip, even the ledges. It did get a little choppy, though was still firm, in the lower part of Dicey's Mill, but certainly did not warrant snowshoes.
