Great view for minimal effort and surprisingly sheltered from the blustery winds. Mt. Rowe itself (I think) where the trail ends and adjoins a snowmobile track has a cell tower/obscured view, but the march up to it is an expansive vista across Gunstock, Belknap and the lakes beneath and a better place for a rest break, winds notwithstanding. Fabulous vistas especially in the snow. Saw about 4 other parties today including a couple on cross country skis. Thanks to the nameless teacher who took our group picture and best of luck on your Long Trail adventure this summer.
Preventative rant: Please wear snowshoes. Half of those we passed had spikes. We mashed down your postholes but on the soft snow of the Yellow trail, not sure spikes make any sense. There's at least 1-2 feet of snow here. |
