Comments
Comments: I snowshoed in ~3 feet of unpacked snow, ascending Noon Peak by Sandwich Mountain Trail, up to the intersection with Drakes Brook Trail. It was slow going at ~1 MPH. Hiking solo, I was exhausted by the time I came to the trail intersection. After seeing that the 1.3 miles to Sandwich dome were untouched, with the sun setting in an hour, I decided to hike back to my car via Drakes Brook and attempt the summit another day. It took me another 2.5 hours to hike the 3.2 miles back to my car via Drakes Brook Trail, which was also unbroken. The Drakes Brook crossing was very challenging, with unpacked, unstable snow and fast moving water.
