Great day with more sunshine/less wind than forecast. Skipped the ladders/ice cave and circled over to Mt. Morgan. Since there was no sign for the Mt. Percival Trail at the summit, we were unsure we were taking the correct trail at first. We descended a bit then turned around after noting we’d need to take off the snowshoes to navigate the rocky top of the Percival trail. Maybe everyone else knows this but it’s been at last 15 years since our last trip here - perhaps a sign could be added. - Regardless I’d forgotten how lovely the views are even though the northerly viewpoint on Percival was overgrown. Loved having my trusty pages torn from my Scudders guide to ID peaks all around.
FWIW Crawford-Ridgepole Tr was unbroken from Percival to Squam and the Doubleheads, except for my trouncing down to the lower sign.
Bummer that we were the only party in snowshoes even with the spring mashed potato snow esp in the afternoon. Except for the tippy top of Mt Percival it was way too snowy to avoid poathoking. Be considerate of fellow hikers, please! |
