Comments
Comments: 19 mile brook trail is packed and was solid in the morning; it was cold. trail to Carter Dome is as well. There is enough snowpack on Carter Dome to make the views spectacular!

On Carter Moriah trail from Zeta Pass to South Carter, the packed trail forks. The left hand fork avoids a bunch of blowdowns. From South Carter heading to Middle Carter there are a number of packed tracks. The trail corridor is easy to see if you look past the blowdowns. We didn't see many blazes and the few we saw were just above the snow line, so I am guessing most of the blazes are below the level of the snow. But the trail corridor is pretty obvious. There is one particularly well traveled route that heads to the right and steeply down off the ridge; I don't know where it goes but it doesn't re-join the trail. There was only one set of snowshoe tracks from South to Middle; two of us went over. The trail is well tracked, but not packed or smooth. Deep loose powder. A group had apparently hiked in to Midddle from the north; the trail was well packed by snowshoes again as we approached the summit of Middle.

On the way out the temperatures, especially in the sun, had risen to above freezing and the trail was getting soft and very chopped up by those without snowshoes.

A magnificent day in the mountains with Bagpiper John.
