Comments
Comments: Arrived at Ferncroft Rd lot to 2-4" of fresh powder. Put on snowshoes after the short roadwalk and kept them on almost the whole walk. Followed one pair of barebooted prints on the way up. The trail appeared to have melted down below before Friday's snowfall so there wasn't much monorail to be felt until the intersection with Rollins Trail. Hooked up with some other snowshoe prints at the East Loop intersection below the summit which helped pack the trail some more. On the descent the snowshoes came off right around the intersection with Tom Wiggins Trail once the trail became that fun spring mix of bare rock, slush, leaves and mud. Huge change in conditions down below between the morning and afternoon so having traction options is helpful.
