Date of Hike
Date of Hike: Thursday, April 12, 2018
Parking/Access Road Notes
Parking/Access Road Notes: Room for a couple of cars at the end of Sky Pond Road in New Hampton where it turns Class VI (don't block the adjacent driveway). The boat ramp parking area is still blocked by a small snow bank.
Surface Conditions
Surface Conditions: Dry Trail, Wet Trail, Snow/Ice - Monorail (Stable), Mud - Significant
Recommended Equipment
Recommended Equipment:
Water Crossing Notes
Water Crossing Notes: The one stream crossing is easily hopped.
Trail Maintenance Notes
Trail Maintenance Notes: One large stepover on the initial Class VI portion of the route. Beyond that the trail could use brushing in spots, but I don't know how "official" this route is. The road portion of the trail is not marked, but the footpath portion is blazed in yellow.
Dog-Related Notes
Dog-Related Notes: Sure.
Bugs
Bugs: Nope, but I'd watch for ticks. Parts of this route are brushy.
Lost and Found
Lost and Found: Nothing.

Comments
Comments: The trail is a mix of bare ground and snow / ice monorail. The most snow is in the area of the stream crossing. Some significant mud forming just prior to the footpath portion. No traction or snowshoes needed. Excellent vista of the Sandwich Range from the namesake ledge. Winona Lake is still mostly frozen.
