Due to the warm temperatures we headed north and the rain turned to snow. Snowing at the start of the hike, started in light traction to see what the water crossings were like. All stream crossings were bridged, or easy to step-over, except for 3rd, and largest one - which we went up stream where a log can be used as a railing. Snowshoes where the bunnel trail takes left to head up the steeps. Hard base with 2-4 inches most of the way over a stable monorail. With the recent rain and new snow cover route finding slowed us down where the trail parallels the drainage on the side slope. The corridor was obscured by new snow but we could find a posthole every now and then, and that aided in navigation - Ha! Kept the gps off to test our skills. Above the cabin the drifts were 6-10 inches and there was no sign of the corridor so the track we laid weaves left and right, not the most direct route but it will get you there. Wintery mix as we started down. All and all a great day for such a grim forecast. Super fun day out with Elizabeth and Nala. |
