| Parking/Access Road Notes: |
Small parking area for two cars and kiosk on Eastman Hill Road in Sanbornton (hiker symbol sign). There looks to be a gravel parking area across the street as well. I approached from the north via Hermit Woods and Eastman Hill Roads, and both were muddy and rutted in places. |

| Trail Maintenance Notes: |
Hoo boy. The TIMST is fine on its initial woods road section. Once it turns into a footpath as it enters the woods, there is very little evidence of either a corridor or a footbed. This route is basically blazes on trees. If the blazes were not there, this trail would be very difficult to impossible to follow. I had to hunt around a LOT for blazes, and I'm pretty good at navigating faint trails. Many of the blazes are also low to the ground, and they will not be visible in winter. |

| Comments: |
A somewhat confusing journey to this small hill, aided by the fact that I missed a turn due to the aforementioned vagueness of the TIMST. A real mixed bag of conditions everywhere, typical of this time of year.
I followed that trail until I met up with a red / green blazed connecting trail which took me to a junction. I turned left here and ended up at a large clearing with an old cemetery. There's also a restricted view out to Moosilauke.
Doubling back to the junction, I continued straight and followed the RT (not on the map, but part of the Steele Hill Resort) up to near the summit of Eastman. There is a cell tower shortly below the top. At the height of land, I bushwhacked maybe 50 yards off trail to the unrecognized high point, which appears to be a small uplifted ledge. I pretty much followed the same route out, except I took the section of TIMST that I should have taken originally and looped back around to where it meets itself.
This ended up being a bit of a navigational challenge, but still a nice day in the woods. :) |
