Comments
Comments: A great day to be out and hiking with perfect temps and nothing but blue skies. Everything you love about spring hiking - snow water and mud! Mount Roberts trail is largely snow free and will likely be completely snow free soon - one stretch down low and a few small patches until 1/4 mile below the summit. Ledges were all dry; last 1/4 mile was snow covered foot+ but it was bearing weight - all hikers today were in boots up to the summit. Opted to take the long way back so headed down High Ridge trail to hit the viewpoint on Faraway mountain. For the stretch between Roberts and the Faraway Mountain trail junctin still a lot of snow - a couple of feet. Prior to us, only 2 sets of boot prints showed evidence of recent use. While deep the snow held us up without postholing. Views from the viewpont made it worth the hike. Snow fairly deep at the top of the Faraway Mountain Trail but depths decreased as we headed down. While there is still snow be aware there are stretches where there is water running under the snow on the trail - we punched through a few times. Still a few inches of snow on at the top of the Cold Spring trail which was gone about halfway down - we switched between stretches of snow and mud. There were long stretches of mud and running water that can't be avoided so we just plowed through. As the snow melts expect a lot of walking through mud on these trails.
