Comments: This website is New England TRAIL conditions yet people post bushwhacks all the time. My tale is about the moose who does not like to posthole. When I got to the flat above the steeps and before the Wiggins I could tell from the tracks that I was pushing a smaller moose in front of me. After the Wiggins I began to see the moose looking back to see if I was still coming before turning and proceeding up the trail again. This became more frequent as we approached the ledges. Just before the ledges she was coming down the trail and this time she did not turn around. There we are 20 yds apart in a standoff both thinking "What Now? Why doesn't this eejit get out of my way?" Thinking that I could not win a right-of-way argument with a 1000 lb beast I began to posthole above the trail. She took the hint and postholed below the trail keeping the 20 yd gap between us.

The trail? Oh yeah. Bare boots on a mix of bare ground and icy monorail to the steeps. Spikes to the summit. Snowshoes across the Rollins though if you don't mind sinking in occasionally spikes would do. Back to spikes up the Dicey Mill to the summit and down most of the way to the stream crossing. Bare boots on mostly bare ground with lots of standing water back to the TH. I chose to 'whack around those scary ice bulges on the Rollins with the big drop below them.
