We traversed Flume/Liberty from Lincoln Woods to the Basin with a bushwhack to East Flume. We started the bushwhack above the col where the trail turns east and then cuts back. The woods were open in places and tight and twiggy in others. The highpoint is recognized and has a nice view.
There is surprisingly little mud. We went to light traction around 2800 feet due to monorail and blue ice. At around 3200 we went to snowshoes as snow became deep and consistent. Snowshoes were the best choice until a fair distance down Liberty spring tr., save for the two summits where they came off. The upper Osseo and between Lib and Flume would be especially challenging without snowshoes as there's four feet or more. |
