| Parking/Access Road Notes: |
Room for a few cars near the end of FR 511 along the Kanc without blocking the gate. |
| Surface Conditions: |
Dry Trail, Mud - Minor/Avoidable |
| Recommended Equipment: |
| Water Crossing Notes: |
None on this alternative route, which avoids the crossing of Downes Brook, which is high at the moment. |
| Trail Maintenance Notes: |
MPT has several stepover blowdowns, none impeding travel. There is one large widowmaker just before the first view ledge, but it doesn't look like it's going anywhere for a while. Waterbars need cleaning, and the trail could use some light brushing in spots. Overall, the upper section of this trail continues to erode and a few rock staircases are being compromised as a result. |
| Dog-Related Notes: |
Sure. |
| Bugs: |
They were out, but not too annoying yet. |
| Lost and Found: |
One of those floss pick things. I carried it out. |

Another visit to Potash, my first 52WAV peak since my knee surgery nine weeks ago. I still have a lot of work to do, but I'm calling this a win. :) I started from the forest road to avoid the high Downes Brook crossing on the hiking trail.
Mostly dry trail throughout, with some very minor wet and muddy areas. No snow left at all anywhere and the steep ledges are dry and grippy. Excellent views as always from this fantastic peak, under cloudless skies. The USFS survey marker was lying on the ground when I arrived at the summit, so I stood it up against a tree. I didn't see anyone else all morning (a snake and I did startle each other though), and had the whole mountain to myself. :) |
