Comments
Comments: Overall a really nice day considering the forecast at the beginning of the week. Beautiful day with minimal winds at the top. We started on the Carter Moriah trail around 8am. Before you hit Mount Surprise there were a few big blowdowns on the trail. I found them easy to navigate around or to jump over or crawl under. We got to Mount Surprise and then continued on to Moriah. We didn’t have to put our spikes on until the last mile or so to the summit. I tried to barefoot as long as possible but kept slipping so figured I’d suck it up. You’re going to think you wont need them anymore (a good amount of dry trail in between) but I kept them on since I’ll need new spikes next year anyway and didn’t feel like putting them on and taking them off every hundred feet or so.. Also recommended them going down since the snow is so slippery. Definitely could leave snowshoes at home. Spikes were sufficient.
