Monday was a beautiful day to be out hiking! The access road is open to the trail head, and trail conditions were for the most part great. Skookumchuck (the pup) enjoyed plenty of access to water along the hike. My trail runners were pretty soaked in a few of the upper switchbacks that had some running water and mud, but nothing to turn back for. A little before the junction with the GRT you start seeing patches of snow and old monorail, all passable. After the junction there was still enough snow and ice to make it awkward, but you could go either way with traction. This time of year I bring an old pair of micros with me that I don't care about getting beat up between the awkward ice and rock combo. Plenty of people did this without any traction and with careful footing, but I felt more comfortable with traction since I had an 80 pound fur baby on a leash. Overall a fantastic day with the always spectacular view from Garfield and Skook's 12th four thousand footer! |
