Water Crossing Notes
Water Crossing Notes: Took off my trail runners, put on some water shoes and wade Garfield Brook. If I had full boots on, I would have attempted a rock hop. Warning: there is an inviting looking rock hop just upstream from the trail. While wading, I checked out those rocks and some are very unstable.
Trail Maintenance Notes
Trail Maintenance Notes: Several blowdowns on lower Gale River trail. Most are easy to go over or around.
Dog-Related Notes
Dog-Related Notes: No hazards for dogs.
Bugs
Bugs: There were lots of black flies at the beginning of the hike. Not many after that. The breeze may have helped.

Comments
Comments: The rocks were very wet and slippery on the ascent, primarily due to the previous day's rain. Lots of mud, too. Garfield Ridge Trail was especially slippery. The lower part of the Frost Trail had some major puddles that required careful rock hopping. Gale River Trail was much drier on the descent. Snow and ice were patchy, but not an issue. Traction was not required! Spikes stayed in the pack. It was a beautiful day with blue skies. Only saw three other hikers.
