Parking/Access Road Notes
Parking/Access Road Notes: From rt. 3 heading north in Stratford we took a right onto Spur Rd, right onto Bog Rd, Left onto Bordeau Rd over small bridge and followed up and took a right onto Sky View Rd, took a left onto Hartshorn through two posts that looked like it once had a gate on it. This road started to get a little washed-out, but I had no issues with my GMC 1-ton truck w/ a truck camper in the bed back. We drove down to Bog Rd and we took a left, this is where things started to get really rough but with the high clearance we took our time and had no issue. Once at Stratford Bog Pond we took a left and followed through more of the same passing a few camps and drove to the end where a snowmobile trail turns right. We’ve hit other mountains from this spot in the past. On another note from Bryan’s previous post the “Amanda’s meth lab” has been disabled :)

Comments
Comments: After reviewing trip reports, paper maps and my Garmin / In Reach online mapping software I decided I’d attack these mountains from Stratford Bod Pond. I noticed that there’s several woods road that climb south of both summits and circle around them to the col between both.

We set off heading north on that snowmobile trail and quickly took an old woods road left and roughly an ½ mile we forked left turning northwest, we keep following this road as it faded I and out and just after another ½ mile or, so we lot it the woods had grown in.

No issues because you’re never really lost while hike off trail, it may just take a little longer getting there. That said we started bushwhacking in the direction we thought this old wood ran and soon enough were back on it and the moose activity was picking up as well. We continue following as more and more woods roads / herd paths would merge heading in that same direction.

Once at the col between Savage and Goback Mountains to the west and the summits I was hitting to the east the views and moose activity really pick up. We then picked up a herd path that was heading toward the northern end of Goback Savage - East Peak (East Savage). Soon we jumped of the herd path and started the steep climb up, first in nice woods and then picking up a logging cut to some really nice moose habitat area, to the summit and the recognized high point.

After signing in we set off northeast toward our next destination Stratford Notch Mountain (East East Savage), at first in nice woods soon it turns thicker and dropped very steep down to the col. The col was a maze herd paths and lots of moose activity as we found lots of moose skull and other bone. We soon climbed out of the col picking up more herd path with some scrappy woods here and there. Once on the summit after navigating tons of blowdowns we hit the recognized high point. After signing in we set of again following herd paths down, picked up an older woods road and back down the way we came.

Another great adventure with my beautiful bride!
