| Parking/Access Road Notes: |
North Twin lot had maybe 15 cars lined up down the road mid-afternoon. |
| Surface Conditions: |
Dry Trail, Wet Trail, Wet/Slippery Rock, Standing/Running Water on Trail, Mud - Minor/Avoidable |
| Recommended Equipment: |
| Water Crossing Notes: |
The ones above Zealand Hut on Twinway were not a problem. |
| Trail Maintenance Notes: |
Both Lend-A-Hand and Fire Wardens Trail show evidence of recent-ish tree clearings. There is one large whack-around on FWT about one-third the way up. It appears the start of the Fire Warden's trail from the North Twin herd path is much easier to find than the last time I visited it. I suppose next time there will be a flashing neon sign with a giant arrow pointing the way. |
| Dog-Related Notes: |
Quite a few on the trails today. One started to get a little too friendly with me when its owner quickly corralled it. |
| Bugs: |
A few in the afternoon as the temps rose and my elevation declined. |
| Lost and Found: |
Found: a pen and a trekking pole basket. I packed both out. |

Day two of an overnight trip...
No significant trail issues to report. The X-factor of this trip was the Fire Warden's Trail - not knowing what to expect I zipped the pant legs on on Hale in preparation for who knows what. Other than the notes above there were 3-4 new-looking birches that were simple step-overs. E.Z.P.Z. virtually the entire way.
This morning it was breezy with a light filter in the sky but views were still had at Guyot and Zeacliff - the view from the latter to Whitewall is one of my favorites. Zeacliff Pond is a worthy wide trip also. Atop Hale a group of self-involved youths were having a block party complete with a blasting radio. Needless to say I couldn't get out of there fast enough. Save that nonsense for the back yard kids!
Lots of people on Twinway today both above and below Zealand, a few on Lend-A-Hand Trail and nobody else on Fire Warden's Trail.
BTW: Border Patrol was again set up on 93S just N of exit 30 this afternoon, adding about 15 minutes. |
