Comments
Comments: Nice hike to these peaks on the New Hampshire Fire Tower List. Deer Mountain was our first destination of the day. We jumped on Mill Brook Trail and followed it for about a mile to roughly 1900 feet of elevation.

At this point we jumped off trail and started bushwhacking a short but steep section east heading toward the southwest running ridge of the mountain. Once past that steep section the grade eased up to a more moderate climb in nice open woods. At just about 2300 feet we hit that ridge and flat area with lots of moose activity, turned northeast picking up an old woods road leading us towards the peak. After the woods road faded out we keep moving in nice open woods and just below the summit we soon jumped back on another woods road. This woods road was overgrown with tall grass and ferns but lead us to the stunning birch glades and former fire tower site, old cabin and outhouse.

On our return trip we jumped back on the old woods road leaving the summit, followed it as it faded in and out all the way down to almost the start of Mill Brook Trail. This route must have been the old fire tower access road and it brought us areas with nice views of Cabot, Terrace and Weeks Mountains.
