|Hiking Trail Conditions Report|
||Mt. Whiteface, Mt. Passaconaway, NH|
||Blueberry Ledge Trail, Rollins Trail, Dicey's Mill Trail, East Loop, Walden Trail|
|Date of Hike:
||Sunday, August 5, 2018|
|Parking/Access Road Notes:
||Busiest I've ever seen it. Lot was full and entrance road was already lined at 7:45. Cars heading well down the main road by the time we returned in the afternoon. |
||Dry Trail, Wet Trail, Wet/Slippery Rock, Standing/Running Water on Trail, Mud - Minor/Avoidable, Mud - Significant |
|Water Crossing Notes:
||Only crossing of significance is on Dicey's Mill; rock hoppable, or crossable on a birch log. |
|Trail Maintenance Notes:
||I recollect a stepover on the Passaconaway side of Rollins and on the final ramp down Dicey's. Bryan cut out a blowdown on the flats on Dicey's. |
||Blueberry Ledge Trail not recommended for most dogs due to some full ledge scrambles. |
|Lost and Found:
||Blueberry Ledge Trail had wet ledge and a few minor patches of mud this morning. Some areas of running water. Rollins Trail also had some mud. Areas of unmitigated flowing water on upper Dicey's Mill.|
Erosion and trail creep on upper Walden and upper Dicey's Mill is staggering; trail is becoming 10-15 feet wide and entire trees are coming down as people try to pull themselves up/lower themselves down slick ledges. Wilderness would be better preserved if they'd put in ladders (preferably steel rungs) so that the trail creep doesn't kill off anymore trees/vegetation.
Blueberry Ledge/Rollins weren't overly crowded, however lots of folks were hiking Passaconaway, quite a few of which appeared to be going out and back. Hot and hazy, but at least the sun was out!
