Parking/Access Road Notes
Parking/Access Road Notes: We spotted a car at the South Moat trailhead and was at the Diana’s Bath’s parking lot (North Moat) soon after 8am. I’d read that the parking there can fill up early but we were only the 8th car. By late afternoon though, when we returned, it was jammed.
Surface Conditions
Surface Conditions: Dry Trail, Wet Trail, Wet/Slippery Rock, Standing/Running Water on Trail, Mud - Minor/Avoidable
Recommended Equipment
Recommended Equipment:
Water Crossing Notes
Water Crossing Notes: Crossings were all rock hoppable
Trail Maintenance Notes
Trail Maintenance Notes: Blazes on rocks and trees are very faded in many areas.
Dog-Related Notes
Dog-Related Notes: We saw a few medium sized dogs but none on the summits. The steep slick rock was tough for some of the dogs we encountered.
Bugs
Bugs: Some mosquitoes and black flies, but nothing terrible.
Lost and Found
Lost and Found: A red croc shoe on the south side of South Moat, not too far from the summit.

Comments
Comments: It was a gorgeous day with crystal clear views and this is a fantastic hike. With the hard rain the day before, the slick rock up North Moat is very slippery. (And there is a lot of slick rock!) We were glad we were doing a traverse and not descending there. The south side of South Moat was drier, and while there are some real scrambles and steep parts, it was definitely an easier descent than North Moat would have been.
