This was our second attempt to find this plaque commemorating the Feb 1959 plane crash where two doctors died. Now that the old bridge is inactivated we had to ford the East Branch. The water level was average and it is not a problem, but it could be if level was high. The trails are flat, old logging railroad grades. The trick is finding the OLD TF trail which was abandoned in 1979 and which crosses over the North Fork and then back. Most of the old trail is quite easy to see even after 40 years but the smaller section from Jumping Brook on north is not, so approaching the old trail from the North would be a challenge unless you know just where to cross. The plaque itself is in a clearing and is 0.15 miles south of Jumping Brook or about a half mile north of where the old trail used to first cross (about 2.1 miles north of beginning of TF trail). All the trails are flat and easy and the old trail runs very close to the river so it is not hard to find. Rock hopping is not a possibility so bring your water shoes. |
