Zealand main lot full at 8:30 AM, secondary lot had a few spots open. Keep an eye open on Zealand road - Mt Washington Hotel is apparently running large Coach buses up to Zealand. Spoke with the shuttle driver who said that on occasions there is no room for the bus driver to turn the bus around and they must back the coach down Zealand road |

| Comments: |
Traverse from Gale river to Zealand with a stay at Galehead hut. Parked at Zealand and caught the AMC shuttle to Gale river - a great services for those looking to do such traverses. Trail conditions were damp and muddy on all trails - some mud could be avoided by strategically placed rocks and limbs but other spots you just have to dive in and get muddy. Worst spots were on the relocated section of Gale River and on Trinway between Guyot and Zealand, Spots of running water on Gale River. Conditions were hazy but still had the great views from South Twin, Guyot, and took the short trip over to North Guyot. Not too crowded in the morning - saw only people 10 from the hut to Guyot. Ran into the crowds on Twinway from Guyot all the way to Zealand hut - dozens heading up to Guyot shelter. In the late afternoon between zeacliff and Zealand hut ran across several parties that were not fully informed - one party was looking for Zealand shelter - once I figured out they meant Guyot they didn't seem happy when I broke the news that there were still two mountains to get over , another with just a local tourist map thought that he would bag Garfield on the way. I hope everyone got where they needed to go though I did warn them that there may not be any availability with such a late arrival at Guyot. Zealand trail out was nice and dry. |
