Comments
Comments: The 19 Mile Brook trail is well packed down and easy to traverse. OK to bare boot all the way to the hut. We took the Carter Dome trail at the 1.9 mile point. Had to break trail from this point all the way to Zeta Pass. We encountered some hikers coming down from the dome so the trail will be much better until the next storm. Near summit the snow is deep and soft. Some postholing even in snowshoes for the heavier hiker. Some great views from the summit. Trail down to the Carter Notch hut was packed down but very loose in spots. Hard to grip even with good snowshoes. The last 1000 feet to the hut was very steep. We butt slid most of the way down. This 10 mile trip took a full 8 hours.
