Recommended Equipment
Recommended Equipment:
Water Crossing Notes
Water Crossing Notes: A couple on Bald Mountain Notch Trail but they were bridged by multiple logs.
Trail Maintenance Notes
Trail Maintenance Notes: Three blowdowns within the first .25 miles of the Bald Mountain Notch Trail but it's also a snowmobile corridor so will probably be removed before winter. Other than that, this is a very nice path. Only one tricky intersection not blazed but used our Gaia app to determine that straight/left was the way to go. BTW, the herd path was easy to follow and clear all the way.
Dog-Related Notes
Dog-Related Notes: Should be okay.
Bugs
Bugs: Only a few mosquitos on the muddy section of the connector trail.

Comments
Comments: Cohos/ Bald Mountain Notch Trail is a wide forest road/snowmobile corridor for the first mile or so. Then a blaze turns you to the right onto a narrower trail. Eventually, we were back on a snowmobile trail, then a path again. The grade was easy to moderate most of the way. The last maybe 1/4 mile got pretty steep. The trail flattened out once we reached the height of land. It also became wetter and in some spots, muddy. At about 2.3 miles, after starting a slight descent we came upon the herd path to the summit on our left. This path is very obvious and we had no problem following it. It was VERY STEEP, however, but fortunately only .3 miles up. Just below the summit, we took a path to the left and up, eventually reaching the ledges just below the recognized high point. A short bushwhack got us to the top; no jar or log but clearly the high point. We rejoined the path and continued, hoping it would loop around to the fork. After descending slightly and reaching more ledges, we turned back and re-ascended and descended the herd path back to the official trail. We soon reached the junction with the Rowell Link and took a left turn onto a snowmobile trail which we followed all the way back down to Christine Lake Road and, ultimately Percy Road, which we followed back to our car. The whole loop, including the side herd path, was 6.5 miles. Great day for a climb!
