Comments
Comments: First time doing this loop- that being the case, I have to say the trails were in many areas, sometime key areas, not well-marked. Had wrong turns on the Ammo, and ran into several hikers/groups on the Jewell below Clay that gotten off route somehow. There were lots of very wet and/or muddy areas on the way up the Ammo that made for some slippery scrambles- sometimes the rocks and slabs were already wet from previous hikers so it was a challenge. Lake of the Clouds Hut had only a few people there, some thru-hikers and plenty of croo. Great to be able to use restrooms, refill our water bottles or get a snack. Weather was fantastic- only a slight breeze and warm even at the summit. Crawford Path up the rockpile was well-laid out and easy to hike/follow. Some clouds drifting across the summits. The kids enjoyed seeing the cog trains going up and down- there were 3 or 4, and one that was arriving at the summit as we got there, though the smoke from the steam train was "unusual" to smell/breathe while hiking. But it blew off pretty quickly. Didn't spend much time at the summit of Mt Washington; the scene was as expected. Incomparable views above treeline all day.
