Comments
Comments: Other than a few short wet, muddy sections trails were all dry today. After thinking about taking the old Garfield Pond Cutoff several times in the past; I finally checked it out today. Obvious beaten path (going straight) departing on upper left turn switchback. A few blowdowns where trail was easily picked up. 6-7 minutes to back side of pond. Trail disappeared here. Stayed on Garfield side of pond for it seemed like Lafayette side of pond may have been wetter. 6-7 minutes later came onto Garfield Ridge Tr. with a million pine needles to clean off. Very short; unaware if there are more open paths on Lafayette side of pond. Not a time saver if heading to Garfield but definitely would save time if skipping by Garfield on way to Lafayette. Nice weather and enjoyable conversation with several hikers.
