Comments: East Whitcomb is on the NH Fire Tower List.

Woods Roads, Bushwhack, Over Grown Logging Road Herd Path and Fire Tower Access Road

I was looking for an alternative approach to this fire tower and wanted to do a little exploring. From our parking spot we headed southwest up and older overgrown woods road that soon turned northwest. At just under a mile at an elevation of 2360 ft we jumped off and headed northeast on an older logging road and now herd path.

We followed that for a bit and jumped off, started bushwhacking in nice woods, herd paths, older logging cuts with lots of moose activity towards the north col between our summit destination and the Whitcomb Mountain Range. Once at this col we picked up the old fire tower access road that brought us right to the East Whitcomb summit and Fire Tower.

On our return trip we headed back down the access road, jumped off on an older wood’s road heading southwest for a short distance and when that faded out we turned south bushwhacking and soon picked up another wood’s road at 2150 ft of elevation heading southeast. We followed this for just under a ½ mile and 1900 ft of elevation to an open field. Here we turned southwest on the woods road and followed for 1/3rd of a mile to Trio Pond Rd. We continued on Trio Pond Rd heading southwest for a ¼ mile to our parking location.

Another great adventure with my beautiful bride turning this hike into a loop clocking in just under 4 miles and 900 ft of elevation gain
