Parking/Access Road Notes
Parking/Access Road Notes: Success Pond Road has been torn up badly by ATVs for the first mile. It's doable in a regular car, but use caution due to road damage and many softball-sized rocks. Max speeds here are 5-10mph. After the ATV turnoff, the road improves somewhat, but is still rough with many dips and protruding rocks. Max speeds here are 10-15 mph. The side road to the former Success Trail parking area is closed (probably for good) due to a washed out culvert. There is very limited room to park along Success Pond Road at the junction. Room for three sensibly parked vehicles. Lots of traffic on the road today, including ATVs where they are not supposed to be.

Comments
Comments: Mud, mud, mud on these trails. Some significant mud pits along ST. Several bog bridges are rotted or wobbly. The slabby section is very mossy and slick. Best to stick to the edges here. Lower down things are much drier. No issues on the OL. Newer blazing on trees but older faded blazing on the ledges. MT also had several areas of mud. The chimney scramble was thankfully dry today. Worn bypasses around steep ledgy pitches.

The storms held out for our group of five as we celebrated a 52WAV finish under mostly sunny skies. Congrats, Gregory! Ridiculous humidity during the ascent, but pleasantly cool at the summit and on The Outlook with a stiff breeze. We did hear distant rumbles of thunder on the way down. Despite it being a crowded holiday weekend, we only saw two other people all day, both were NOBO thru-hikers.
