Comments: Terrific day to revisit the Lincoln Slide!!! It took a bit of searching to find the minor southern fork of the slide that comes close to the Franconia Ridge Trail nearest Mt Lincoln. I dropped in (careful to rock-hop), kept looking for a link to the slide proper and it wasn't that hard but I did go over a few LARGE boulders and into some 6' tall firs to find the slide. Once on that fork of the slide, I dropped down around 800' to the confluence (just above it, actually) of the slides and had lunch - TERRIFIC!!! (Note: this slide is NO secret!!!) - just an awesome area. Years ago I did this with Hiker Ed & Guy on our way to Owl's Head, BUT, I didn't get to spend enough time on the slide then. NOTE: there are several LARGE channels with sharp v-shapes where the water probably channels - I wouldn't want to be in them in a rain storm!!!! Slide is a mix of large, 4'-ish rocks, the occasional car-sized rock, and loose scree. The northern fork for the way back up gets you pretty close to the ridge trail but dumps you into a small cave - I went through it, then up some large 4-5' boulders then right to the trail.... The rest of the ridge was quite busy as expected. I spent around 3 hours on the slide just poking around and taking pictures.....
