Parking/Access Road Notes
Parking/Access Road Notes: Wow!!!! We hadn't done this trail in over 14 years. I did not remember the parking being like it was this time. Brand new outhouses, a picnic table, a nice clean lot with plenty of parking. I'll second the person a few days ago who suggested coming in from Tripoli Road (exit 31) rather than Waterville Valley. The road between the Livermore trail head and here had some major pothole/washout issues. But I did it in a Corolla by driving very slowly and around those messes. This is a fee area, worth every penny.

Comments
Comments: I think I could do this one every day and not get tired of it! It was a pleasant surprise to me that it seemed easier than it did 14 years ago (means I'm in better shape at 61 than 47). Met a few people and one dog doing this as their first 4K. Very rocky and rooty in the beginning, then smooths out nicely; alternating between flat areas and climbs. Some peek-a-boos of Tecumseh and the ski slopes on the way up. There are many herd paths near the summit. There will be one on the left which will give you a glimpse of what you cannot see from the ledges. There were several stealth camp sites. Spent more than an hour on the ledges. No East Osceola, had to get home to watch my granddaughters. Although the hike up seemed very quick, the descent seemed longer.

Prema saw a herd path right before you get to the summit. We checked it out on the way down, but did not have enough time to see how far it lead. Wondering if this goes to that peak that is on the Trailwrights list. Will have to go back sometime and check it out. I wish Tripoli Road was open up to this point in the winter (crossing that slide on the way up from Greely Ponds makes me nervous).
