Hiking Trail Conditions Report

Peaks Mt. Carrigain, NH
Trails
Trails: Signal Ridge Trail
Date of Hike
Date of Hike: Saturday, September 29, 2018
Parking/Access Road Notes
Parking/Access Road Notes: Not as busy as expected after seeing Crawford, Ethan Pond, Davis Path and Nancy Pond trailheads packed more than I've ever seen them before. Road fine but narrow in spots so keep an eye out for wider spots if meeting oncoming traffic.
Surface Conditions
Surface Conditions: Dry Trail, Wet Trail, Wet/Slippery Rock, Standing/Running Water on Trail, Mud - Minor/Avoidable
Recommended Equipment
Recommended Equipment:
Water Crossing Notes
Water Crossing Notes: Easily rock hopped with poles being helpful for balance as I needed to take one long step to keep feet dry. Lowest crossing on the old trail (section rerouted near jct. of Signal Ridge & Carrigain Notch trails) required two steps in 2-3" water.
Trail Maintenance Notes
Trail Maintenance Notes: One 8" blowdown right near the well below the summit. New signage stating 5.3 mile distance at the top; didn't notice what sign said at bottom.
Dog-Related Notes
Dog-Related Notes: Saw a few out today. Brook and puddles, flows probably enough water for them currently.
Bugs
Bugs: A few out but no problem.

Comments
Comments: Met the majority of the 75-80 hikers on their way down as I hit the trail at 11:15. Lot of minor slips on the way down on the many wet and cold rocks where poles were a savior. Used the old trail on the way down (instead of third rerouted section). Quite obvious and in just as good condition as trail proper. Almost needed headlamp. Nice view day around NH and Camel's Hump in Vt. clearly framed above Franconia Ridge. Trails a mix of smooth and fast or awkwardly rocky.
