Comments: Crossed the road and cut into the woods behind the guardrail and the the right of the rock wall. Plan was to climb to the height of land of the first bump, descend to the col and head straight up. Woods not too bad at first, ground and trees were definitely damp from all the rain the past few days. About halfway up we encountered thick spruce about which we'd been warned... Once through that the climb got steeper. We made our way up alongside a large boulder/ledge and finally to the top. Woods cleared slightly so we could even see Mount Kancamagus ahead and to the right. The descent into the col was fairly steep but short, ending in an open, mossy area. We took a new heading and started our second climb. Woods not as thick but tons of blowdowns, some avoidable, some not. Finally the woods began to open up and we followed what may have been herd paths to the top. We continued on fairly level ground and soon spied the PVC pipe canister through the trees! Yahoo! Easy to open, the logbook is protected by three plastic ziplocs. Last entry was July. As it was getting misty and windy and we were soaked, we soon left and took a heading straight down to our car. The woods were much clearer this way although still not easy going, steeper, some hidden holes and rotting blowdowns, small boulders. Halfway down we came upon a stream which we kept close to the rest of the way down. Ended up below a wall of strewn boulders with the Kancamagus on top! Skirted to the left through the woods until we found a place to cross a tributary and only had to rock climb about 20-30' feet up. Tough one but finding the signin jar as exciting as always!
