Comments
Comments: Fall colors are here in force in the Lakes Region.

We took advantage again of the new trail relocations on the western side of Sugarloaf. Nice short relo (marked with blue diamonds) on Blue Trail takes it around a usually wet, muddy area, while much of the White Trail has been completely relocated prior to the first creek crossing heading south -- the trail (marked with white diamonds) now stays on the eastern side of the creek, and never crosses it, before re-connecting to the Green Trail about 0.1 miles south of where it used to. The now-closed section of the White Trail was an old logging road, heavily eroded, that used to flood often; this relocation is a nice change.

Viewpoints along the way show near-peak color on the higher-elevation slopes near Mt. Cardigan, and patchy (but rapidly approaching peak) color at lower elevations.

This route makes for a nice loop over the Sugarloaves and then past Goose Pond, back to the parking area.

Busy parking area when we arrived, but because most folks head to Goose Pond or maybe even Little Sugarloaf, once past the first part of the trail system you'll have the trails to yourself.
