Date of Hike: Thursday, October 18, 2018
Parking/Access Road Notes
Parking/Access Road Notes: At a large lot for SPNHF's Quarry Mountain Forest on Reed Road in Alton. Note that the former parking space further up the road near the gate is now posted no parking (you'd have a difficult time driving to it anyway).
Surface Conditions
Surface Conditions: Dry Trail, Mud - Minor/Avoidable
Recommended Equipment
Recommended Equipment:
Water Crossing Notes
Water Crossing Notes: Shiny new footbridge just after the gate, installed recently by SPNHF volunteers. Thanks!
Trail Maintenance Notes
Trail Maintenance Notes: One large blowdown at around 0.7 mi. partly blocking the trail, with a herd path around. This could present a momentary navigational pause on the descent if you're new to the trail. Some brushing is needed in various spots, especially along the skid road portion approaching the ridge.
Dog-Related Notes
Dog-Related Notes: Sure.
Bugs
Bugs: Nope.
Lost and Found
Lost and Found: Nothing.

Comments
Comments: Mostly dry trail with a few minor wet areas and mud. Last time I did this trail was in winter, so more views were available en route. Still, a great vista from the rock staircase where the trail leaves the old road, 0.6 mi. up, looking north toward the Sandwich Range and the Ossipees as well as over to Belknap, Gunstock and Rowe. A mellow ascent from there to the ridge via numerous switchbacks. I didn't see anyone else today.
